From my fav Lindsey Elmore:
Did you know?
Cool Azul Pain Cream works by two different mechanisms of action: first menthol binds the TRPM8 receptor and produces a cold sensation. This creates a counter-irritant effect. Basically, your brain gets distracted by the cold and forgets about the pain.
Second: methyl salicylate inhibits an enzyme called cyclooxygenase and therefore reduces the formation of prostaglandins. The body perceives prostaglandins as painful, so reducing them, reduces pain.
The next time someone tells you that essential oil constituents can’t pass through the skin, remind them of this.
